About the event

The panel will take place on Thursday, 19 January 2023 from 1:00 - 3:30pm CET in the House of Switzerland in Davos.

Switzerland embodies two globally respected strengths: Its commitment to peace and humanity, and its adherence to and further development of international humanitarian law. As a country scarce in raw materials, Switzerland has always relied on technological innovation. The Internet protocol World Wide Web, for example, was created at CERN, and Crypto Valley has established itself as one of the world's leading blockchain hubs.

This event features a high-profile lineup and addresses the above-mentioned Swiss traditions - with a focus on the potential of blockchain technology to make the world a better place. Using specific examples, we want to showcase how blockchain technology can help improve living conditions: in the reconstruction of the destroyed infrastructure in Ukraine, providing humanitarian aid and fundraising opportunities by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and in giving access for the three billion people who have no access to the traditional financial system, the so-called "unbanked". At the same time, the challenges will be discussed alongside the opportunities: How will the population take up the new, decentralized technology? What about trust, identity and the protection of privacy?

Anna Derevyanko, GB4U cofounder and EBA Executive Director will participate in the discussion.

The event is jointly organized with the following partners: Switzerland Global Enterprise, Switzerland for UNHCR, Global Business for Ukraine (GB4U), Kozminski University and the Cardano Foundation.
