On May 22, a closed-door, full-day workshop took place at the University of Zurich, bringing together business leaders, academics, and policy experts to discuss how companies can navigate the growing impact of geopolitics on business strategy.
Co-hosted by the University of Zurich, the European Business Association, and Global Business for Ukraine, the event focused on the global shift toward a multipolar world – a trend accelerated by russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the broader challenges to globalization.
The agenda included expert presentations on geopolitical trends, risk-monitoring tools, and regulatory developments affecting international business. Discussions centered around practical approaches for companies to adapt their strategies in an increasingly complex global landscape.
Participants from the business community shared their on-the-ground experiences and engaged with scholars in collaborative sessions. Key themes included:
Monitoring and mitigating geopolitical risks
Adapting strategies in response to political and economic fragmentation
Managing regulatory changes
Strengthening supply chain resilience
Developing scenario planning for future conflict outcomes
The workshop reinforced the importance of staying politically aware and strategically agile. In today’s world, where markets are deeply shaped by geopolitical developments, cross-sector collaboration and forward-thinking leadership are essential for business resilience.
